Wedding Reception Ideas

If you're looking for wedding reception ideas that will have your guests spellbound, entertained and talking about your wedding for months then I may have something.

I recently attended a friends wedding and like most weddings, they run to a fairly predictable set of events, which I'm sure you will all know by now.

However, the one thing that everyone agreed upon that made this wedding quite special, apart from the bride of course, was the reception video which received a well deserved rapturous applause.

Now I'm not talking about a video taken of the reception but the video that was shown at the reception.

Wedding Reception Ideas - Video PresentationTo give us, the guests, a break in-between dinner and the desert, a 10 minute video presentation was given of the wedding couple, right from babies, toddlers, teenagers through to the present day.

This was accompanied by music which meant something to the happy couple and was perfectly matched to the unfolding events of their lives as the video progressed.

The video had the bride's mother and mother-in-law in floods of tears (always a good sign) and the finale really captured everyone's hearts - the happy couple's baby daughter, four month old Mia.

What made this baby so special, apart from being really cute, was she could talk. Yes at 4 months old Mia was talking, telling us about how her Mum and Dad didn't know she could talk and staying up late to make the video.

Everyone was spellbound, jaws dropped and for the first few seconds there was silence in the reception hall, not long after followed by cheers, whistles and hoots of laughter and then finally rapturous applause.

After the lights went up and whilst the guy who presented the video was packing his stuff away I went over to ask him about the video and where he had it made.

It turns out he was a video wiz and although I pressed him hard to tell me how he put all this together and got the baby to talk, he wouldn't tell me except to say it was a trade secret.

Later that evening I got the chance to speak to him again when he wasn't quite so busy.

Apparently he had received a lot of praise and enquiries from guests asking similar questions to me.

Some guests also asked if they could contact him about possibly doing something for their own family forthcoming wedding receptions.

He did tell me this was more a sideline than a business for him but he was happy to take enquiries so he gave me his contact details.

He did however ask me not to publish them, which I agreed, but what I said I would do, is forward any enquiries to him that I get.

Several months passed after the wedding before I contacted this guy again, I'll call him Mr X. I asked him if it was OK to mention him on this site. He said he didn't mind as long as I didn't mention his name and he also kindly let me have a video clip of Mia - the talking baby that he said I could show.

I can't show you a complete example of a video presentation for a wedding reception as they were all done for clients and therefore private. However, Mr X told me he also creates these video presentations for special birthdays and as tributes to celebrate people's lives, so he gave me two other video clips I can show.

Some copyright stuff has been inserted into the video clips knowing how stuff gets passed around the web, but I was asked to point out that the copyright notices are not on these videos when produced for clients.

If you click on the Play button you can watch the video of Mia talking. If you click on the PlayList in the bottom right of the video player you will see three video titles.

MiaTalk the first one you watch and then two other videos, Wonderful World and Special Times, which are both taken from longer video presentations. Just select a video to watch from the playlist.

You will need a high speed or broadband Internet connection to watch these streaming videos, but I hope you enjoy them and agree with me that the video of Mia is really cute.

So, if you're looking for wedding reception ideas that are unique and you want to find out if you can get a video presentation made for your wedding or the wedding of a family member then just supply your name and email address in the form below and your enquiry will be forwarded automatically to Mr X.

If you want an idea of the cost of a wedding reception presentation video like the one I saw, then Mr X told me it depends somewhat on the quality of the material he is given to work with. He works with movie footage and photos, but if the movies or photos are very old or poor quality then there is a lot more work and time involved in processing and enhancing the images. Hence the finished product will cost more. But just so I could give you a rough idea of typical cost it would be about $100 per minute of finished video presentation. So a 5 minute presentation would be around $500 or there abouts.
